Why our prayer times are more reliable
Do not be fooled by claims that the True Dawn (Fajr) begins at a sun angle of less than 18 degrees. Such calculations are astronomically and historically incorrect.
“I have observed (raṣadtu) the angle of the sun below the horizon [during the break of true dawn] over successive years and found that this value increases or decreases due to the clarity or turbidity of the atmosphere (li-ṣafāʾ al-jaww wa-kudūratihī). However, it never exceeds 20 degrees and does not fall below 18 degrees. I found 19 degrees to be correct, which corresponds to the opinion of a number of experts in this field (muḥaqqiqū hādhā l-fann).”
